WHISTLER, BC August 7, 2014 – If variety is the spice of life then Whistler Blackcomb is one flavourful resort, with no shortage of dining options available on and off the mountains this summer. Recognizing a hearty meal is an integral part of any mountain experience, Whistler Blackcomb is constantly looking for ways to evolve its food and beverage program and this summer that includes introducing Garbo’s Grill, a new customizable burger bar, and a Kids Eat Free deal into the mix.
“Everyone enjoys a good meal and since we are in the business of enjoyment, we need to make sure our dining options are right on par with the rest of the experiences we offer,” says Paul Street, Director of Food and Beverage at Whistler Blackcomb. “The new Garbo’s Grill and Kids Eat Free program address two key areas of focus for us: the ability to serve delicious and convenient food made with healthy, locally sourced ingredients and a way to help our guests save a bit of money, especially those young families dining in Whistler on a budget.”
Garbo’s Grill is located on the new Garbanzo Bike & Bean (GBB) patio at the base of Whistler Mountain in the recently renovated Carleton Lodge. Garbo’s offers a protein choice of hormone and antibiotic free beef burger patties, grilled chicken breasts or quinoa and vegetable burgers. Diners then have a choice of over 20 garnishes, including a variety of cheeses, mustard and tarragon aioli, crispy onions and organic arugula. Gluten free buns are available upon request and guests can choose to enhance their burgers with options like Fraser Valley bacon or guacamole for an additional charge. Garbo’s will be open daily from 11am to 7pm until summer operations end at Whistler Blackcomb on October 13. Garbo’s will then reopen for the winter season with new breakfast options added to the menu.
The new Kids Eat Free program has been introduced at Merlin’s Grill at the base of Blackcomb Mountain and Dusty’s Bar & BBQ in Creekside. A special kid’s only menu has been designed for both locations and for every main course ordered by an adult off the regular menu, a child age 12 and under can order a free meal off the kid’s menu. The Kids Eat Free promotion will also be available through to the end of summer operations at Whistler Blackcomb.
Whistler Blackcomb’s existing food and beverage options will continue to be available for the remainder of the summer season, including the Mountain Top BBQ series at the Roundhouse Lodge on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings and full service fine dining with a view daily at Christine’s in the Rendezvous Lodge on Blackcomb Mountain. For a truly unique experience, the second and final Winemakers Dinner of the season will be taking place in Steeps Grill and Wine Bar in the Roundhouse Lodge on August 30. The event will feature a six course meal inspired by British Columbia and prepared with locally-sourced sustainable ingredients, paired with fine wines from Jackson-Triggs Okanagan Estate.
