WHISTLER, BC August 18, 2014 – Whistler Blackcomb and Monster Energy Canada, Ltd, the official energy drink of Whistler Blackcomb, have partnered in bringing innovation to the world of skateboarding with the creation of a new portable mini ramp. The Showcase Monster mini ramp follows a partnership agreement between Whistler Blackcomb and Monster Energy, signed last December, aimed at bringing new and innovative events and activations to Whistler Blackcomb. The new mini ramp is one example of the incredible activations, fuelled by Monster Energy, since the partnership.
The mini ramp is the brainchild of Showcase Snowboard, Surf and Skate Shop Manager Deanne Gale, who initially came up with idea two summers ago. “I wanted to build a portable mini ramp that could be used at both indoor and outdoor events throughout the year,” says Gale. “I really wanted to have the flexibility of using the mini ramp in lots of different places – around our facilities, on the mountain and for events further abroad. It has been so exciting to bring this dream to life.”
The Showcase Monster mini ramp boasts five foot high walls, over eight foot transitions and two inch steel coping. While the ramp is over 20 feet wide, it is still classified as a ‘mini ramp’.
“We could not be more excited about the Showcase Monster mini ramp,” says Darryl McDonald, On Premise Director at Monster Energy Canada, Ltd. “We wanted to create a versatile ramp that beginner to intermediate skateboarders could develop on, while also providing something expert skaters can still get rad on. We continually look for new and innovative ideas for events and activations, and the Showcase Monster mini ramp ticks all the boxes - from innovation to investing in the skateboarding community.”
The Showcase Monster mini ramp will be making its inaugural appearance at the Showcase Summer Ramp Series on Wednesday, August 20 in Mountain Plaza from 3pm until 6pm, with $500 in cash prizes. Showcase and Monster plan on using the mini ramp at their respective events in the future. The Showcase Summer Ramp Series has scheduled a second event for Saturday, September 20 in Mountain Plaza from 3pm to 6pm.
