Alpine Hiking, Running & Interpretive Trails

WHISTLER, BC February 12, 2013 – British Columbia’s first official Family Day holiday has proven to be all Whistler Blackcomb hoped for with 85,000 skiers and snowboarders taking advantage of British Columbia’s new long weekend from Friday, February 8 to Monday, February 11, 2013.

“From Friday to Monday we managed to draw the kind of daily visit numbers we see over our busiest time periods like U.S. Presidents’ Week and Christmas holidays,” says Dave Brownlie, President and CEO of Whistler Blackcomb. “We’re thankful to the BC government for creating this holiday and taking feedback from the tourism industry. As the numbers prove, this date allowed us to capture incremental visitation in the month of February, and BC residents were given their holiday a week before an already peak time period over the third weekend of February when Presidents’ Week and other provincial Family Days take place.”

Canada West Ski Areas Association (CWSAA), Whistler Blackcomb, Tourism Whistler and other tourism-based businesses successfully promoted BC Family Day to fall on the second weekend of February instead of the third week originally proposed. The move to the second Monday in February ensured British Columbian guests were able enjoy Whistler Blackcomb and the opportunity for all tourism partners across the province was maximized.

Families are important business for Whistler Blackcomb and emphasis has been placed on making the slopes as welcoming as possible. Whistler Blackcomb’s commitment to the family ski experience has been recognized with recent accolades in 2012 including being named Top Family Resort by, and being named Best Canadian Family Resort by both SKI Magazine and Canadian Living Magazine.

Value goes hand in hand with families and to that end Whistler Blackcomb is rolling out more ways to get on the slopes and save this winter.
