WHISTLER, BC January 21, 2014 – The Globe and Mail, AVIS, GoPro, Diageo, American Express, TELUS, Arc’teryx, GORE-TEX® Products, and GMC were awarded top honors in Whistler Blackcomb’s Partner Marketing Awards this December. The second annual event highlighted corporate partners who executed outstanding brand activations that not only enhanced the guest experience, but also seamlessly integrated with Whistler Blackcomb’s mountain operations.
“We are thrilled with the array of unique events and programs our partners have executed at Whistler Blackcomb and the focus they have demonstrated with enhancing the guest experience,” says Maja Ronneberger, Manager of Strategic Alliances and Partner Marketing at Whistler Blackcomb. “The purpose of the Partner Marketing Awards is to recognize the efforts of our partners and encourage them to leverage their relationship with Whistler Blackcomb to showcase world class activations.
General Motors Canada received the highest accolade of the awards ceremony winning both the new category of Best Summer Activation as well as earning their peers’ vote to be named the overall winner for Best Activation at Whistler Blackcomb for 2012-2013. The motor vehicle brand’s winning event, GMC Base Camp, was a two-part activation starting with GMC providing free rides (shuttles) for downhill mountain bikers in the North Vancouver mountains in brand new GMC Yukon’s. While being shuttled, riders were given free lift tickets to the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. GMC then brought their activation team up to Whistler the following weekend to provide a complimentary shuttle service up the Whistler Mountain Bike Park – an air conditioned, luxurious alternative to riding the chairlift.

The award for Most Innovative Activation went to The Globe and Mail for the Breaking News interactive touch screen kiosk and souvenir photo booth located both on Whistler Mountain in the Roundhouse Lodge and in the Guest Services building at the base of the Whistler Village Gondola.
The Best Bang for Your Buck award went to Diageo for their Captain’s Table activations which saw Captain Morgan and his Morganette’s provide samples and photo opportunities at après ski events throughout Whistler village.
The Best Employee Engagement Activation was awarded to American Express for their Staff Incentive Program, which incentivized Whistler Blackcomb employees who encouraged guests to pay for their Whistler Blackcomb products or services using their American Express Card.
The award for Best Integration of an Athlete went to AVIS, GoPro, and GMC for their work in producing a film showcasing two Whistler Olympic athletes (Julia Murray and Davey Barr) making the journey from Vancouver YVR Airport to Whistler along the breathtaking the Sea to Sky Highway.
The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Award went to TELUS for their “Birdies for Bucks” activation at the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation's TELUS Golf Classic tournament in September.
Finally, the award for Best Co-Promotion BetweenTwo Or More Partners was awarded to Arc’teryx and GORE-TEX® for their integral involvement in the annual sell out event, the Arc’teryx Deep Winter Photo Challenge, Presented by GORE-TEX®.
The awards ceremony concluded Whistler Blackcomb’s annual Corporate Partner Summit at the Roundhouse Lodge atop Whistler Mountain. Ronneberger added that the “Summit and Partner Marketing Awards at Whistler Blackcomb was an exciting conclusion to successful year of partnerships.”
