WHISTLER, BC – March 3, 2014 - The legendary Showcase Showdown snowboard competition, presented by Monster Energy, will return to Whistler Blackcomb March 14 -15, 2014. This annual snowboarding competition will be held as a two day event for the very first time this year and has now been added to the roster of events on the World Snowboard Tour.
The two-day Showcase Showdown will include a snowboard Slopestyle competition in the Nintendo Terrain Park on Blackcomb Mountain as well as a Big Air event at the base of Whistler Mountain in Skier’s Plaza. Both events will include men’s and women’s Pro and Amateur categories with a total prize purse of $20,000. The first place prize for men in each discipline is $8,000, and for women, $2,500. As an added bonus, the top three Pro men from each day will earn a spot in the Monster Shred Show during the World Ski and Snowboard Festival in April.
“We are so excited to include the Showcase Showdown as a four-star event on the World Snowboard Tour,” says Fabia Grüebler, Tour Director of the World Snowboard Tour. “With the high quality terrain parks and jumps Whistler Blackcomb builds, the huge prize purse, and an opportunity for athletes to qualify for the Monster Shred Show, this competition should attract some amazing talent and we can’t wait to watch it all go down.”
Over the course of the weekend there will be a Monster Energy party at Merlin’s Bar on Friday night, and at the Garibaldi Lift Co. (GLC) on Saturday night, as well as a “Showoff” rail jam outside of the GLC on Saturday where competitors will battle it out with their best rail tricks for a Samsung Tablet. Spectators are welcome at each event and are encouraged to come and watch some of the top snowboarders in the region.
