WHISTLER, BC, May 20, 2014 – Spring skiing and riding is well underway on Blackcomb Mountain as Whistler Mountain gears up for the opening of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park on Friday May 16, 2014. To celebrate this remarkable time of year when guests can enjoy the best of both seasons, spring skiing and riding and downhill mountain biking, the Crud 2 Mud Race presented by Kokanee is back on Saturday, May 24, 2014.
In teams, or individually, Crud 2 Mud competitors ski or snowboard from the top of Whistler Mountain to the bottom of the snow line, and then continue the race on their bikes through the Whistler Mountain Bike Park to the village below.
“Spring in Whistler embodies the best of both worlds; it’s pretty unreal that we can ski or snowboard and downhill mountain bike in the same day,” says Whistler Blackcomb Events Supervisor, Sebastien Fremont. “With the recent warm temperatures, the Crud 2 Mud course is looking incredible and will definitely put Whistler’s multi-sport athletes to the test.”
Due to the nature of the Crud 2 Mud course, and the ever-changing snow conditions, the event is recommended for strong intermediate to expert skiers, snowboarders and mountain bikers. There will be a mandatory racer meeting for all participants at the Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC), on Friday, May 23 at 6:00pm, discussing the event format and announcing the final course route.
Registration for the Crud 2 Mud race is open until 2:00pm on Friday May 23, 2014. The event is $65 for individuals or $100 for teams of two. Registration includes a $10 food voucher for food purchases at the GLC after the event, an event T-shirt for each participant as well as the opportunity to race in this unique event. The awards ceremony will be held at the GLC at 5:00pm, with an après party and free live music provided by Kokanee kicking off around 5:30pm.
