WHISTLER, BC November 15, 2013 – Whistler Blackcomb and GoPro have recently renewed a three-year corporate partnership agreement that names GoPro as the official camera of Whistler Blackcomb. GoPro produces wearable and gear-mountable cameras which enable users to record life’s greatest moments in the most immersive perspective possible. As the “world’s most versatile camera,” GoPro is the perfect tool for skiers and snowboarders looking to capture their on-mountain experiences at Whistler Blackcomb.
“The filming possibilities and the quality of footage provided by GoPro cameras is game-changing,” says Stuart Rempel, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Whistler Blackcomb. “We are always looking to push the envelope and come up with that next great piece of video content that will inspire our guests to get out there and explore what our resort has to offer. GoPro is the perfect partner to help us achieve this goal, whether the cameras are being used as a tool by our Marketing Department for official video content or by our guests to make their own edits and then share them through their social networks. The result is the same – the Whistler Blackcomb’s story is being captured by the world’s most versatile camera.”
Whistler Blackcomb will be releasing The Wonder Reels, Season 2 for the 2013.2014 ski season, a brand new seven episode video series filmed, edited and produced by Switchback Entertainment. One of the episodes that will be released later this winter is titled The Hand Off. The video follows a crew in Whistler Blackcomb’s Highest Level Terrain Park who come across a lost GoPro. They agree the camera needs to be taken to Lost & Found, but first there is a perfect park session to be captured. The video is shot entirely with a GoPro Hero3 and is a perfect example of the content creation made possible by GoPro cameras. To view the video, visit www.whistlerblackcomb.com/wonder.
GoPro will also be investing in ambassadors throughout the Whistler community this winter season and will be hosting the GoPro Snow Chronicles, an inaugural film contest challenging videographers to showcase Whistler Blackcomb through GoPro footage. Additionally, GoPro has signed on as the title sponsor of the GoPro Junior Freeski Open, an International Freeskiers and Snowboarders Association (IFSA) sanctioned event taking place for the first time at Whistler Blackcomb February 8-10, 2014.
“We are absolutely thrilled to renew our agreement with Whistler Blackcomb, as the official camera of the resort. Whistler Blackcomb is the ultimate North American ski resort, offering a long winter season, beautiful backdrops and settings from a photographers point of view, with great restaurants and shops in the Village and plenty of activities for the whole family. As GoPro is the leader in wearable and mountable cameras, it makes perfect sense to partner with Whistler Blackcomb, the leader in the snow resort business," says Dan Kelsay-Resort and Camp Marketing Manager.
GoPro cameras and accessories are available at several Whistler Blackcomb retail locations including Showcase Snowboards, CAN-SKI, Roundhouse Traders, the Solomon Store, and Garbanzo Bike and Bean.
