Calendar:
We offer 1 internship a year for a 3 month period in our recruiting department and 1 internship a year for a 3 month in our Events & Recognition department from:
- Mid September to Mid December in recruiting
- January to March in Events & Recognition

Applications and Interviews:
Employee Experience internship is unpaid however will provide accommodation for the term of the internship (Please note: Staff accommodation is a taxable benefit)
We typically accept applications 2 months prior to the start date of the internship. So for example, if an internship was to start in January we would accept applications as early as November.
If you were to be selected, we would offer you an interview either in person or over the phone as we understand that you might not be in Whistler at the time of the interviews.
Internship Offer and Conditions:
If you are offered an internship you will be working full time from 30-40 hours a week.
Then Whistler Blackcomb will require the following information to hire you:
- Work Permit (if applicable)
- Social Insurance Number
- Criminal Record Check (if applicable)
- Photo Identification (Government issued, i.e., passport, driver's license, etc.)

- 25% off rentals before 11am.

Employee Experience Intern

Job Summary:
As a member of the Recruiting team, you will assist in delivering and improving exceptional guest service to our employees and potential employees, and play a vital supportive role to the Recruiting Coordinators. Enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play a part in Employee Experience during the 2011-2012 Winter Season while gaining invaluable experience in the world of Recruiting.
What you’ll be doing:
- Maintain the strictest confidentiality with all material within Employee Experience Division.
- Answer employee enquiries in person, by phone and by e-mail
- Maintain job line and current job postings on e-mail and recruiting binders
- Provide information and clarification to supervisors, managers and all employees on job positions, company policies and employee benefits
- File, organize and archive all current and past employee files
- RTP: continuous process improvement for: familiarity with passes and procedures for both WB and Intrawest employees; verifying employee status, Club Shred, credit card details, comments and SmartAccess profile.
- Assist with Benefit and Payroll inquires
- Maintain and update employee files in the SAP
- Maintain Office inventories and equipment as well as gathering quotations and tenders for services required.
- Provide assistance with Club Shred, employee communication programs and events
- Assist with Olympic oriented projects
- Support the recruiters when needed with projects
- Ensure each new hire provides all personal information required to be hired, including valid satisfactory criminal record check
Qualifications:

- Related experience or education in Human Resources preferred

- Learning how to build relationships with key players i.e. supervisors and managers

Events & Recognition Intern
Position Status: Unpaid internship(Full-time workload 30-40 hours/week). This position comes with a staff pass allowing unlimited skiing and riding at Whistler Blackcomb and accommodation if needed.
Job Summary:
As a representative of the Whistler Blackcomb Employee Experience team, you will create and develop innovative employee recognition initiatives, events and activities that set a standard of excellence. You will join us in striving to consistently provide our Employees with event and programs that maximize recognition and celebration and an overall positive experience. Your creative and enthusiastic approach will keep our employees engaged and excited about working at Whistler Blackcomb. Start/end dates for internships can be flexible and will be discussed during the interview phase.
Duties:
- To continually strive to exceed expectations and to create memories for guests and staff as the best mountain experience…again and again.
- Maintain the highest level of service and professionalism at all time
- Assist in the planning and execution of all Employee recognition efforts and events
- Assist in the creation and development of marketing and promotional collateral for events
- Build strong working relationships amongst internal departments, notably Food & Beverage and Employee Housing
- Continually evaluate and improve programming and events based on employee feedback
- Assist in the coordination of employee social club, Club Shred, events and initiatives
- Initiate communication with departments via company intranet, printed materials and social media outlets, to promote upcoming events
- Foster relationships with Whistler Blackcomb vendors and suppliers and assist in event contract negotiation process.
- Administrative duties to optimize efficiency and maintain event files and records
- Other administrative duties will be added to support our Communication coordinator and Employee Experience Officers
- Monitor and update Events budget with assistance of Event Coordinator
- Other duties as required in the Employee Experience division

Qualifications:

- Post-secondary education, preferably in the area of Event Planning, Marketing, Communications or Recreational/Tourism.
- 1-2 years experiences in a customer service environment
- Previous event planning/programming or project coordination experience would be an asset
- Excellent interpersonal skills, highly organized with a strong ability to meet deadlines
- Strong administrative and writing skills
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft office and desktop publishing
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize
- Creative, innovative, and animated
- Must have a flexible schedule, as events often take place outside of typical office hours
- Required to complete a satisfactory criminal record check
Outcomes:
- Setting of goals and objectives and how they relate to guiding the creation of an event plan
- Define various terms as relevant to resort operations and event industry
- Explain the principle components of planning and executing special events
- Ability to develop event planning and project coordination skills
- Development of event management documents; including promotional collateral, critical paths and timelines, staffing schedules, risk management plans, and communication briefs.
- Importance of monitoring a budget during the planning phase of an event
- Successful leadership and execution of a small sized event (50-100 people)
- Ability to understand how best to evaluate the success of an event
- General knowledge of roles and responsibilities within the Employee Experience division of Whistler Blackcomb
