Peak Experience Program:
The Peak Experience program is offered to local high school students in the Sea to Sky region. Students gain experience and exposure by job shadowing in senior staff in our divisional areas: Operations, Retail Rental, Food and Beverage and Snow School.


Applications and Interviews:

Applications can be accepted with local High School career counsellors in the Fall for Operations, Retail Rental and Food and Beverage. If you were to be selected, we would offer you an interview in person in Whistler.

For Snow School the program is open for applications online in early December under our Current Postings tab. The program typically begins mid/end of January until the end of April. If you were to be selected, we would offer you an interview either in person or over the phone. .

Conditions:

If you are offered a position with one of our two High School Programs you will be require to shadow 12 days between January to April.

Then Whistler Blackcomb will require the following information to hire you:
  • Work Permit (if applicable)
  • Social Insurance Number
  • Photo Identification (Government issued, i.e., passport, driver's license, etc.)

Seasons Pass
  • As long as you remain an intern in good standing with Whistler Blackcomb you will have a season's pass to access the mountains. Please note: The season's pass is a taxable benefit.

Retail
  • 25% off at all Whistler Blackcomb retail locations. (Please note that the discount percentage is off the full retail price of the item. No Staff Discount will be given on top of the sale price of an item.)

Winter Rentals
  • 25% off rentals before 11am.
  • 50% off rentals after 11am (except during peak periods such as Christmas, President's Week, Spring Break and Easter - it will just be 25% during the holiday periods)
  • 25% off repairs with odd specials at 50% off
  • 20% off at Tuning Centres ~Ski service is $25 and snowboard is $30 (could be more depending on damage)

Food & Beverage
  • 50% off at all market style restaurants. (For on Mountain restaurants discount applies all day when on shift or when not at work all day except between 12-1:30pm)
  • 20% discount at Merlin's, Dusty's and GLC seven days a week (not including liquor)

Snow School
  • Free group lessons available when space allows in the right ability level
  • 20% discount on all Ski School Programs such as: Dave Murray Camps, Private Lessons, Ski Esprit, Roxy Camps, Extremely Canadian and Telemark Lessons.

What types of jobs are available

Food & Beverage

You are responsible for top notch service in one of the largest restaurants in North America. As a busser in this high-alpine, cafeteria-style restaurant, you will interact with guests, keep this facility looking spotless, and work as a team to ensure that our guests have the best mountain dining experience. You will be given a pair of pants and will need to provide a pair of sturdy, comfortable dark shoes (no running shoes allowed).

Rentals

As a team player in the Retail/Rental Division, you are responsible for gearing up our guests with the equipment that best suits their rental needs. Your smile and great service attitude are an integral part of ensuring that they have the best mountain experience possible. A uniform shirt is provided for you as well as a pair of pants. You will need to provide a pair of sturdy, comfortable dark shoes (no running shoes allowed).

Lift Operations

As a member of the lift ops team, you will ensure that each guest is greeted and assisted in safely getting onto our lifts throughout the day. This day begins bright and early, and does require that you bring your own warm boots, gloves and hat. It is important to wear warm layers to stay comfortable throughout the day. A Whistler/Blackcomb uniform consisting of a jacket and ski pants are provided for you. You are required to bring your own skis/snowboard. Your equipment and the lifts are your mode of transportation for the day!

Mountain Safety

As a Mountain Safety Team Member, you will assist in the creation of the safest environment possible for our guests and staff. Your responsibilities will include providing an efficient line control system and animated experience during peak lift uploading times, in addition to ensuring all slow zones are well marked and monitored. A warm jacket and pants will be provided to you, but you will be responsible for you own ski/board equipment as you will be on the ALL DAY!

Snow School Program Description

Whistler Blackcomb’s mission is to create the best memories for you…again and again!

Position Status: Volunteer: 12 shadowing Days . This position comes with a pass allowing unlimited skiing and riding at Whistler Blackcomb

Summary:
As a member of Whistler Kids you will report directly to a supervisor in one of the Whistler Kids and Ride Tribe areas. You will be assigned to a mentor staff member who will teach you how to teach skiing to children and evaluate your progress as the season continues. You will be required to teach a total of 12 days and taking the Level 1 CSIA by the end of the season is strongly recommended (the four days of the course can count toward the total of 12 days). If you are successful in the mentorship program you may be hired as a staff member for the 2012-13 season.

Duties:

  • Help a mentor instructor in the daily duties of ski instructing, including and not limited to signing in of class registration, greeting children, dressing and feeding children, teaching skiing skills, and parent interaction and debriefing.
  • Assisting in set up and take down of learning areas where needed.
  • Other projects to be determined

Qualifications:
  • Must be between the ages of 15 and 17 years of age.
  • Must demonstrate a kind and caring attitude toward children.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are assets.
  • Must meet the WhistlerBlackcomb grooming standard.
  • An outgoing and friendly attitude is valued.
  • Demonstrate our core values around Teamplay, EE, Striving to be the Best, Customer Loyalty, Honesty and Integrity, Safety, and Community & Environment.

Outcome:
  • Experience in a ski school and teaching children.
  • Experience with inter-departments.
  • Certification in skiing or snowboarding.
  • Knowledge of the resort tourism industry.
