We offer 1 practicum a year for a 3 month period in our recruiting department and 1 practicum a year for a 3 month period in our Events, Communication,Training and Development department from:

  • Mid September to Mid December in Recruiting
  • January to March in Events, Communication,Training and Development

Applications and Interviews:

Employee Experience practicums are unpaid however will provide accommodation for the term of the practicum (Please note: Staff accommodation is a taxable benefit)

For the fall practicum we typically accept applications in March/April. For the winter practicum we typicall accept applications in August/September.

If you were to be selected, we would offer you an interview either in person or over the phone as we understand that you might not be in Whistler at the time of the interviews.

Practicum Offer and Conditions:

These practicums are only open to students who are currently enrolled at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution who require this placement to complete their program.

If you are offered a practicum you will be working full time from 30-40 hours a week.

Then Whistler Blackcomb will require the following information to hire you:

  • Work Permit (if applicable)
  • Social Insurance Number
  • Criminal Record Check (if applicable)
  • Photo Identification (Government issued, i.e., passport, driver's license, etc.)

Employee Experience Practicum

Position Status: Unpaid practicum: (Full-time workload 30-40 hours/week). This position comes with a pass allowing unlimited skiing and riding at Whistler Blackcomb

Job Summary:
As a member of the Recruiting team, you will assist in delivering and improving exceptional guest service to our employees and potential employees, and play a vital supportive role to the Recruiting Coordinators. Enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play a part in Employee Experience during the 2013-2014 Winter Season while gaining invaluable experience in the world of Recruiting.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Maintain the strictest confidentiality with all material within Employee Experience Division.
  • Answer employee enquiries in person, by phone and by e-mail
  • Maintain job line and current job postings on e-mail and recruiting binders
  • Provide information and clarification to supervisors, managers and all employees on job positions, company policies and employee benefits
  • File, organize and archive all current and past employee files
  • RTP: continuous process improvement for: familiarity with passes and procedures for both WB and Intrawest employees; verifying employee status, Club Shred, credit card details, comments and SmartAccess profile.
  • Assist with Benefit and Payroll inquires
  • Maintain and update employee files in the SAP
  • Maintain Office inventories and equipment as well as gathering quotations and tenders for services required.
  • Provide assistance with Club Shred, employee communication programs and events
  • Assist with Olympic oriented projects
  • Support the recruiters when needed with projects
  • Ensure each new hire provides all personal information required to be hired, including valid satisfactory criminal record check

  • Related experience or education in Human Resources preferred
  • Strong Administrative skills
  • You must be currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian post secondary school who require this  placement as part of their program.

  • Obtaining firsthand knowledge of HRIS systems
  • Obtaining a better understanding how a Ski Resort Operation operates
  • Learning how to build relationships with key players i.e. supervisors and managers
  • Learning about our benefit administration plan, compensation programs and other Human Resources programs.

Human Resources Generalist Practicum

Position Status: Unpaid practicum (Full-time workload 30-40 hours/week). This position comes with a staff pass allowing unlimited skiing and riding at Whistler Blackcomb and accommodation if needed.

Job Summary:As a representative of the Whistler Blackcomb Employee Experience team, you will work with and learn from four Employee Experience departments: Organizational Development, Events and Recognition, Communication and Administration and Employee Services. In those departments you will be assisting to maintain a fair work environment with learning opportunities and multiple engaging work related activities, creation and development and innovative employee recognition initiatives, events and activities that set a standard of excellence. Your creative and enthusiastic approach will keep our employees engaged and excited about working at Whistler Blackcomb. Start/end dates for internships can be flexible and will be discussed during the interview phase.

You will assist with various duties within Organizational Development, Events and Recognition, Communication and Administration and Employee Services which include the following:

  • Assistance with Employee Experience Officer Duties
  • Learning Curve Courses
  • Employee Performance Management
  • Employee Opinion Survey
  • Assist with Events and Recognition
  • Assistance in the planning and execution of all Employee recognition efforts and events
  • Assist in the creation and development of marketing and collateral for events
  • Assist in the evaluation process of events based on employee feedback
  • Assist in the coordination of employee social club, Club Shred, events and initiatives
  • Monitor and update Events budget with assistance of Event Coordinator
  • Assist with Communications and Administration
  • Initiate communication with departments via company intranet, printed materials and social media outlets, to promote upcoming events and activities going on around the mountain
  • Administrative duties to optimize efficiency and maintain event files and records
  • Assist with Employee Services
  • Assist in distribution of all required company equipment issued at Employee Services
  • Ongoing liaison with employees from all areas
  • Inventory counts
  • Daily laundry organization and reconciliation
  • Printing and re-printing staff passes
  • Capture Employees in the workplace in all sorts of settings on video and photo and be prepared to compile a montage at the end of internship for the use of Employee Experience collateral and other promotional materials from Employee Experience
  • Other duties as required in the Employee Experience division

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft office and desktop publishing

  • Must have a flexible schedule, as events often take place outside of typical office hours
  • You must be currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian post secondary school who require this placement as part of their program.

  • Learn about general resort operations and human resources within this environment
  • Explain the principle components of planning and executing special events, facilitation of meetings, communications and other human resources functions
  • Development of event management documents; including promotional collateral, critical paths and timelines, staffing schedules, risk management plans, and communication briefs
  • Basic knowledge about monitoring a budget
  • Ability to understand how best to evaluate the success of an event
  • General knowledge of roles and responsibilities within the Employee Experience division of Whistler Blackcomb
