For our Food and Beverage department we offer one internship a year for a 6 month period from:

Applications and Interviews:

Food and Beverage internship is paid and we will provide accommodation for the duration for the term at a discounted rate.

For fall internships we typically accept applications in April/May.

If you were to be selected, we would offer you an interview either in person or over the phone as we understand that you might not be in Whistler at the time of the interviews.


Internship Offer and Conditions:

If you are offered an internship you will be working full time from 30-40 hours a week.

Then Whistler Blackcomb will require the following information to hire you:

Work Permit (if applicable)

  • Social Insurance Number
  • Criminal Record Check (if applicable)
  • Photo Identification (Government issued, i.e., passport, driver's license, etc.)

Seasons Pass
  • As long as you remain an intern in good standing with Whistler Blackcomb you will have a season pass to access the mountains.

Retail
  • 25% off at all Whistler Blackcomb retail locations. (Please note that the discount percentage is off the full retail price of the item. No Staff Discount will be given on top of the sale price of an item.) List of WB Retail Shops »

Winter Rentals
  • 25% off rentals before 11am.
  • 50% off rentals after 11am (except during peak periods such as Christmas, President's Week, Spring Break and Easter - it will just be 25% during the holiday periods)
  • 25% off repairs with odd specials at 50% off
  • 20% off at Tuning Centres ~Ski service is $25 and snowboard is $30 (could be more depending on damage)

Food & Beverage
  • 50% off at all market style restaurants. (For on Mountain restaurants discount applies all day when on shift or when not at work all day except between 12-1:30pm)
  • 20% discount at Merlin's, Dusty's and GLC seven days a week (not including liquor)

Snow School
  • Free group lessons available when space allows in the right ability level
  • 20% discount on all Ski School Programs such as: Dave Murray Camps, Private Lessons, Ski Esprit, Roxy Camps, Extremely Canadian and Telemark Lessons.

Hut Bistro Lead Hand

Position Status: Paid internship: (Full-time workload 30-40 hours/week). This position comes with a pass allowing unlimited skiing and riding at Whistler Blackcomb 

Start dates for internships can be flexible and need to be discuss at the interview time

Job Description:

  • To continually strive to exceed our Guest’s expectations and to create memories for guests and staff as the best mountain experience again and again
  • Provide hands-on leadership and direction to food service employees in any assigned outlet.
  • Assist with all inventory controls.
  • Be accountable for all cash control procedures.
  • Assist with employee training, development, and communication.
  • Provide quality control on all products and services.
  • Assist with scheduling and labour controls.
  • Promote a fair and harmonious work environment.
  • Assist with preparation for catering and special events.
  • Ensure fair and consistent disciplinary action.
  • Ensure a safe work environment.
  • To provide front line service.
  • To ensure that food is received, stored, handled, prepared, and presented in a timely hygienic manner.
  • Prepare food for the following day.
  • Production and service of menu items
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the restaurant and food preparation areas.
  • We are a company that works together and throughout the season you may be required to assist other departments as needed.
  • Ensure Food Safety compliance with regards to training, temperature monitoring, cleaning schedules and weekly internal auditing.

Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrate our core values: Safety First, Striving to be the best, and showing that we care
  • Experience with RTP an asset
  • Previous Food & Beverage experience required.
  • Supervisory/leadership experience preferred.
  • Must be intermediate skier/rider
  • Previous cash handling required.
  • Proof of satisfactory criminal record check.

  • You must be currently enrolled or a recent graduate in a recognized Canadian post-secondary school


Outcome:
  • Obtaining firsthand knowledge of operations and logistics related to on-mountain restaurants (including but not limited to:  food ordering, inventory procedures, cash procedures, financial analysis, adherence to Worksafe BC regulations

  • Obtaining firsthand experience working with individuals from other countries

  • Obtaining first hand experience leading staff

  • Being held accountable to metrics in Whistler Blackcomb’s KRA’s through the WB Corporate Goals and Objective process
