WHISTLER, BC, February 4, 2013 – Whether celebrating BC Family Day or Chinese New Year, Whistler Blackcomb is kicking off B.C.’s first ever long weekend in February by offering 50 per cent off full day lift tickets for B.C. residents on Monday, February 11. Proof of residency is required.

“Discounted prices provide an excellent opportunity for families to rediscover Whistler Blackcomb,” says Donna Kerr, general manager of Whistler Kids. “Whistler Mountain just opened The School Yard last weekend which features beginner terrain park rails and jumps, targeted to young ones who are keen on learning the fundamentals. Families are also encouraged to explore the new family Wonder Route which is a set itinerary that highlights kid-friendly areas and points of interest.”

Whistler Blackcomb will be turning up the heat on Sunday, February 10 at 6:30PM with an extended and special Fire & Ice Show, free for the whole family. Whistler Blackcomb’s Snow School skiers and snowboarders jump through a dazzling ring of fire, flanked by more fire spinners than ever before and more fireworks will light up the night sky. Located in Skiers Plaza at the base of Whistler Mountain, the event runs until 7:30 p.m.

For those who want a break from skiing and have extra energy to burn, families can experience the thrill of the Coca-Cola® Tube Park at discount prices. Families of four or more with all children under the age of 12 years old receive 10 per cent off Tube Park tickets.

After a day on the slopes, Whistler Blackcomb’s three slopeside bars make it easy for families to experience Whistler’s famous après atmosphere after a full day of skiing or snowboarding. The Garibaldi Lift Co. (GLC), Merlin’s and Dusty’s Bar & Grill offer tailor-made kids menus and accommodate children until 8p.m.

Other off-mountain discounted family activities in Whistler include:

  • 50 per cent off day tickets at Lost Lake Cross-Country and Snowshoe Trails

  • 50 per cent off skate rentals for Skating at Whistler Olympic Plaza (admission is free)

  • 50 per cent off family drop-in or all day admissions at Meadow Park Sports Centre
