Calendar:

We offer 1 internship in the winter for a 3 month period and we offer 5 internships in the summer for a 3 month period:
  • End of December to beginning of March or April
  • Mid June to beginning of September

Applications and Interviews:

Operations internships are paid and will provide accommodation at a discounted rate for the term of the internship

For winter internships we typically accept applications in April/May and for summer internships we typically accept applications in January/February.

If you were to be selected, we would offer you an interview either in person or over the phone as we understand that you might not be in Whistler at the time of the interviews.

Internship Offer and Conditions:

If you are offered an internship you will be working full time from 30-40 hours a week.

Then Whistler Blackcomb will require the following information to hire you:
  • Work Permit (if applicable)
  • Social Insurance Number
  • Criminal Record Check (if applicable)
  • Photo Identification (Government issued, i.e., passport, driver's license, etc.)

Seasons Pass
  • As long as you remain an intern in good standing with Whistler Blackcomb you will have a season pass to access the mountains.

Retail
  • 25% off at all Whistler Blackcomb retail locations. (Please note that the discount percentage is off the full retail price of the item. No Staff Discount will be given on top of the sale price of an item.) List of WB Retail Shops »

Winter Rentals
  • 25% off rentals before 11am.
  • 50% off rentals after 11am (except during peak periods such as Christmas, President's Week, Spring Break and Easter - it will just be 25% during the holiday periods)
  • 25% off repairs with odd specials at 50% off
  • 20% off at Tuning Centres ~Ski service is $25 and snowboard is $30 (could be more depending on damage)

Food & Beverage
  • 50% off at all market style restaurants. (For on Mountain restaurants discount applies all day when on shift or when not at work all day except between 12-1:30pm)
  • 20% discount at Merlin's, Dusty's and GLC seven days a week (not including liquor)

Snow School
  • Free group lessons available when space allows in the right ability level
  • 20% discount on all Ski School Programs such as: Dave Murray Camps, Private Lessons, Ski Esprit, Roxy Camps, Extremely Canadian and Telemark Lessons.

Lift Host Internship

Position Status: Full Time (30-40 hours/week).These dates may vary due to seasonal business fluctuations.

Job Summary:
To operate the assigned lift safely and efficiently while providing guests of Whistler Blackcomb with courteous and friendly service. To achieve and maintain the highest standards; requires dedication to the Team in a very challenging environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Maintain a high quality, friendly and cooperative relationship with guests, the lift crew and other mountain staff.
  • Adhere to all operational and safety procedures; ensuring safe efficient operation of the lift.
  • At every opportunity, greet each and every guest in a friendly manner, making eye contact whenever possible. Strive to assist the guest before the guest asks.
  • Provide physical assistance to guests when required.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining all operational aspects of the assigned lift including ramps, mazes, tools and signs.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards including tool storage, load/unload areas, lift huts.
  • Generally provide a groomed, uncluttered, litter-free environment.
  • Notify Supervisor/Lead Hand immediately of any unsafe, unusual, abnormal situations or incidents.
  • Prepare and complete required documents.
  • Inform Supervisor/Lead Hand if work areas are in need of tools, equipment or any special attention.
  • Continually remain aware of the mechanical lift and the guest.
  • Perform all tasks as assigned by the Lift Supervisor/Lead Hand.
  • Comply with all procedures and policies as set out in the Employee Handbook.
  • Attend all employee meetings.
  • Strive to continually improve in safety, service and job satisfaction.
  • Carry out all responsibilities with the highest level of professionalism.
  • We are a company that works together and throughout the season you may be required to assist other departments as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Must possess excellent employee and public relations skills and be of a friendly and cooperative nature.
  • Must be mature, energetic, dependable and self-motivated.
  • Must be able to reason and react with quick, thoughtful judgment, while remaining calm under pressure.
  • Must be capable of performing physical/manual duties and meet the grooming standards.
  • Enjoy working outdoors and maintaining high service standards during inclement weather conditions.
  • Intermediate to advanced ski or snowboard ability an asset.
  • Proof of clear criminal record check.
  • You must be currently enrolled or a recent graduate in a recognized Canadian post secondary school

Outcomes:
  • Acquire soft skills in customer Service and problem solving.
  • Acquire Hard skills operating lifts and prepping lifts for daily operations and shut down.
  • Working in a diverse team which requires strong templay to meet service expectations and operational needs.
  • Exposure to a Mountain operations environment.
