Whistler Blackcomb and the surrounding community are coming together once again to show our thanks to two of the things we are incredibly grateful for – snow and the mountain enthusiasts that dream all summer long about the day it starts to fall again.

The Turkey Sale is like the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory of skiing and boarding. Over 20,000 square feet of the Blackcomb Daylodge is packed to the rafters with every kind of ski, board and merchandise you can think of. And it’s all on sale! We’re talking deep discounts up to 70% off. If you’ve ever hit up Whistler Blackcomb’s famous Turkey Sale, you know endless choice goes hand in hand with the occasional lineup and a twinge of shopping anxiety. To avoid being overwhelmed, here are some tips to survive the Turkey Sale and walk away with the best deal possible.
1. Make a shopping list.
Marching into the Turkey Sale without a plan can lead to anarchy shopping. There are amazing deals and so much choice. Try narrowing your search to what you really want.
2. Research the gear.
Talk to Whistler Blackcomb staff before the Turkey Sale starts. Go to CAN-SKI, Salomon store and Showcase Snowboards to get an idea of the kind of merchandise that will be at the sale. They can give you advice on outerwear and gear to look out for and you can dial in the right size for each brand.
3. Size up early.
If you’re in the market for a new ski or snowboard boot, get your foot measured by a professional before you head to the Turkey Sale. This avoids poorly fitted boots and the inevitable blue toenails. The Salomon store in Whistler Village has a new boot fitting lab for skiers where experts can size you up right. Showcase Snowboards, located in Whistler Village and in Vancouver, also have professional snowboard boot fitters on hand.
4. Go early. It’s going to be busy.
The best deals are often snapped up quick so lining up can be worth the wait if you’re looking for a specific in-demand product. Hint: skis and boards are hot ticket items. New gear is put out every day so if you didn’t find what you were looking for on day one, show up early the next day for round two.
5. Bring a friend.
If you’re lining up early, you’re likely going to need some coffee. A “friend” acts as the perfect coffee gopher.
6. Bring cash… for turkeys!
There will be credit card and debit machines on hand for merchandise purchases but it’s cash-only for turkeys. $15 frozen turkeys will be on sale starting at 9am on Saturday, October 12. All proceeds from the Thanksgiving birds sold will go towards the Whistler Food Bank. Cheap. Meat. Enough said.
7. Exclusive Turkey Sale deals.
The latest version of the free Whistler Blackcomb mobile app, powered by TELUS was just released for iPhone users. An Android version will be released in November. The improved app features daily deals throughout the year, including deals exclusively for the Turkey Sale. NOTE: Turkey Sale offers will be available on the Whistler Blackcomb mobile app as well.
8. Sell your pre-owned gear at SWAP.
Want to sell some old gear and make room for the new stuff? Drop your used quality equipment for both kids and adults off at the "Sale With Awesome Prices", located at the base of Blackcomb. While you’re there, browse the tent for deeply discounted clothing and accessories from Whistler Blackcomb's chain of retail outlets. For equipment drop-off times, visit the Whistler Mountain Ski Club.
9. Free parking.
If you didn’t know already, parking lots 4 and 5 are free, and located just a five minute walk from the Turkey Sale in the Blackcomb Daylodge. Don’t feel like walking? Whistler Blackcomb will be operating a free shuttle throughout the weekend from lots 4 and 5 to and from the Daylodge.
10. Prepare for rain.
Bring a jacket or umbrella. Rain in the village means snow on the mountain, generally. So, let’s all hope it’s raining during the Turkey Sale!
