WHISTLER BLACKCOMB OPENS RUN WITH 5,020ft. OF CONTINUOUS VERTICAL
Celebrated Peak to Creek wide open for ultimate mountain experience
WHISTLER, BC, January 21, 2006 – The long awaited west side of Whistler Mountain officially opened today with Peak to Creek, a seven kilometre (over four mile) groomed, intermediate run. The Peak to Creek zone also features three other named runs, 400 acres and hundreds of lines to choose from.
“Peak to Creek embodies the best of Whistler Mountain within one run,” says Bob Dufour, Vice President of Mountain Operations for Whistler Blackcomb. “With over 5,020 feet of vertical and seven kilometres of variety, there are no other runs like Peak to Creek around.”
On Peak to Creek’s opening day, Whistler Blackcomb’s Mountain Host program fielded many questions about the new run. “By 10am this morning, many guests had asked Mountain Hosts when free mountain tours of Peak to Creek would be taking place,” says Mountain Host Jim Sayers, a Squamish resident who has been hosting for the past seven years and has skied Whistler for “a long time.”
“Because of the massive size of Whistler Blackcomb, having a local expert like a Mountain Host or ski instructor tour you around is like have a backstage, all-access pass to the mountain,” Sayers says.
With or without a Mountain Host, Peak to Creek is ready for play. After an exhilarating ride up the Peak Chair, the Peak to Creek experience begins. Guests make their way from alpine bowls on Upper Peak to Creek, to glades of Coastal rainforest at mid-mountain, and on to wide rolling trails through big timbers to the Creekside base area. The views alone are something to experience. From the summit of Whistler Mountain signature views 360 degrees around unfold, including Black Tusk, an arresting black, volcanic rock landmark south of Whistler.
Whistler Blackcomb is rated the #1 mountain resort in North America, and is arguably the best mountain resort in the world. With the highest vertical, the most skiable terrain, and a blue run with the most continuous vertical, Whistler Blackcomb is the place to be for January. With almost 3.5 metres (11’) of snow since January 1, and systems expected to move in the middle of next week bringing more fresh snow to the area, Whistler is leading the way in opening new terrain and having some of the best snow conditions in North America.
