Named No. 1 overall resort by TransWorld and moves up to No. 3 in SKI Magazine's poll
Whistler Blackcomb remains the top ski resort in North America for the eleventh year in a row, upholding its No. 1 ranking on SKIING Magazine's "Top 25 Resorts in North America" list. Meanwhile, TransWorld SNOWboarding Magazine ranked Whistler Blackcomb No.1 overall ski resort in North America for a second year in a row, while SKI Magazine's annual "Top 50 Resort Guide" bumped Whistler Blackcomb up one spot to No. 3. Whistler Blackcomb made the Top 10 list in 11 categories.
"Whistler Blackcomb continues to lead the pack as an innovator in the ski resort industry," says Stuart Rempel, Senior VP of Marketing and Sales for Whistler Blackcomb. "We had an incredible 2006/2007 season, with the second snowiest year on record, the successful debut of the Symphony Amphitheatre, and the launch of our groundbreaking Peak to Peak Gondola project. These top rankings are an indication that all of our hard work has paid off and guests are receiving the memorable experience we strive to provide."
In addition to a top overall ranking, SKIING Magazine readers also voted Whistler Blackcomb in the Top Five for the categories: Steeps, Backcountry Access and Parties.
TransWorld SNOWboarding Magazine attributed Whistler Blackcomb's No. 1 ranking to a winning formula that combines awesome on-hill and off-hill activities with numerous resort improvements in anticipation of the 2010 Olympics. "Whistler has the complete package with world-class terrain, parks, and pipes—and they've got more of it all than any other resort. Add to that the incredible natural setting, the tremendous snowboard culture, and the sheer number of choices you have from lodging to dining to dance floors and it's no wonder our readers choose Whistler winter after winter," says Annie Fast, Managing Editor of TransWorld SNOWboarding.
Whistler Blackcomb received additional accolades from TransWorld, making it to No. 4 on the magazine's Top Ten Best Pipes list and jumping up to No. 2 from No. 5 in the Top Ten Best Parks category.
"The success of Whistler Blackcomb Parks is our team effort and experienced staff who work day and night to ensure our guests are stoked," says Stu Osborne, Whistler Blackcomb terrain parks supervisor. "Staff who ride what they build, personal pride, passion in their work and an epic winter made for one of the best park and freeride seasons in Whistler."
Nearly 7,000 magazine subscribers participated in SKI Magazine's poll, ranking North American resorts in 18 categories. Whistler Blackcomb was listed in the top five for Terrain/Variety (No. 1), Lodging (No. 2), Apres-Ski (No. 2), Dining (No. 4), Off-Hill Activities (No. 4), Lifts (No. 4), and Terrain Challenge (No. 5).
"Whistler's pedestrian village is world-renowned for its superb amenities, offering the full range of hotels, dining and spas," says Ian Dunn, Director of Marketing Services for Tourism Whistler. "Many of these top rankings reflect our diverse après-ski offerings as well as the huge range of activities. We congratulate and thank our members on all that they do to make Whistler the perfect choice for a magical winter holiday."
Winter is fast approaching and anticipation is building, fueled by memories of last season's 14.16 m/46.5 feet of snow. Guests who book by November 15 can receive up to 33 per cent off their holiday. For more information, visit www.whistlerblackcomb.com.
