Terrain Parks Growing And Superpipe Is Cut
Whistler Blackcomb is set to open its world class Superpipe on Blackcomb Mountain as of December 9, 2007 with mid-season quality. The Blackcomb Superpipe will open at full size at 120m/394ft in length and 5.5m/18ft high walls.
After a great start to the season with over seven feet of snow in the alpine, Whistler Blackcomb has stepped it up and opened North America's most well known Superpipe. "We've had our snow guns on full pull over the past couple of weeks to make sure we have the best pipe possible," says Brian Finestone, Whistler Blackcomb Terrain Park Supervisor. "The groomers have pushed snow three nights straight and plan to string, step, and cut the Superpipe Friday."
Operations crews have been working around the clock blowing, grooming and digging snow to get the mountain's five terrain parks up and running. Currently in the Habitat and Nintendo Terrain Parks, skiers and riders will find a mix of jumps, rails, boxes, hips and picnic tables totaling 25 features in all. "We are making snow all over our parks and will have some larger jump features coming in the next week," says Finestone.
The Highest Level Park will officially open mid-December but larger features are being built on that side so people can get a feel for the bigger terrain and the flow of the park before the XL features are built and Highest Level passes are needed. Skiers and riders can purchase their Highest Level pass when build-out is complete at Guest Relations in the Village, Creekside and at the Blackcomb Daylodge. There are over 70 acres of park terrain between Whistler and Blackcomb so skiers and riders can experience any level of freestyle terrain they desire and progress at their own speed.
As one of the top ranked parks in North America and after winning almost 40 awards during its 14 year history, Whistler Blackcomb's terrain park are set to stomp it in 07/08. For more information on Whistler Blackcomb and our terrain parks visit www.whistlerblackcomb.com or www.untrackedlines.com .
