After a snowy six month hiatus, construction on Whistler Blackcomb’s Peak 2 Peak Gondola has commenced, with completion of the record breaking lift slated for this December, just before the busy winter season swings into high gear.
Phase one of the two-year construction schedule concluded last November with the two tallest towers completed, and concrete poured for the foundations of the remaining two towers. Phase two has kicked off with the clearing of over 10 feet of snow around the lift terminals to prepare for construction. Access roads have been cleared of snow on Whistler and Blackcomb, and the steel for the towers is being moved into place.
Longest Ski Season in North America also Boasts Most Skiable Terrain
As most other resorts ramp down and close for the season, Whistler Blackcomb kicks spring skiing into full gear. Skiing and riding on Whistler Mountain will take place until April 20. Spring skiing continues on Blackcomb Mountain from Monday, April 21 through Sunday, June 8. With a current snow base of 265cm and 3,000 to 2,500 acres remaining open for May and the first week of June, spring is shaping up to be as epic as the rest of the season.

Registration is in full swing with over 40 athletes confirmed and, with the Superpipe at Base II on Blackcomb taking shape, anticipation for this year's Showdown is high.

Terrain Parks Growing And Superpipe Is Cut. Whistler Blackcomb is set to open its world class Superpipe on Blackcomb Mountain as of December 9, 2007 with mid-season quality. The Blackcomb Superpipe will open at full size at 120m/394ft in length and 5.5m/18ft high walls.
