Skiing and Riding Continues on Whistler Mountain May 19 as Snowpack Permits

Whistler Mountain will re-open May 19 for late spring skiing and riding, following Blackcomb’s last day on Monday, May 18. Recent snowfall, cooler temperatures, and a current snow base of 193cm have created the conditions for Whistler Blackcomb to continue to offer skiing and riding on Whistler Mountain.

“Currently the snow pack and coverage is good,” says Bob Dufour, Whistler Blackcomb vice president of mountain operations. “Operations crews will assess the terrain between now and May 18 to determine the best areas for skiing and riding. We anticipate offering a product on Whistler Mountain through to the end of May and we will continue to assess the conditions to see if skiing/riding in June is a possibility.”

Limited skiing and riding will be available from May 19 with uploading available from the Whistler Village Gondola only from 10am to 4pm. A few park features including rails will be available. Updated information on open lifts and terrain on Whistler Mountain will be available at whistlerblackcomb.com/whatsopen as operations decisions are confirmed. The Snow Report will also continue to be updated daily. The Snow Report number is 604-392-4211 locally or 604.687.7507 from Vancouver.

In addition to skiing and riding, some key dates to note include:
  • May 16 - Whistler Mountain Bike Park scheduled to open, weather permitting.
  • May 16 - Spring sightseeing on Whistler Mountain opens.
  • June 6 - The PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola reopens for the early summer sightseeing season.
  • June 20 - Glacier Skiing begins on Blackcomb Mountain.
  • June 27 - Whistler Blackcomb welcomes summer with all summer products and services.

The Unlimited Spring Pass is an amazing value add-on for purchasers of the 2009.2010 Edge Card. The season is far from over as mountain operations continue until May 18, and then on to June 14 as the snowpack allows. With the base currently sitting at 228 centimetres/89 inches Whistler Blackcomb is entering the spring season strong. Whistler Mountain will close on April 26, Blackcomb Mountain will remain open for spring skiing and riding until May 18 and Whistler will reopen for spring riding May 19 to June 14, snowpack permitting.
