When we are exposed to information about the natural environment, it often inspires us take positive action toward environmental stewardship. We strive to provide as many entry points as possible for our staff and our guests to learn about sustainability and opportunities to participate.
What we have done to educate our guests and staff about sustainability:
- Employ two Environmental Coordinators who work to establish as many entry points as possible for our staff to participate in making our operations more sustainable.
- Attend staff training sessions (approximately 50 per year) and weekly meetings to outline our sustainability programs, reaching more than 2000 staff members.
- Established four internal working groups focused on sustainability planning in the areas of water, energy, transportation and procurement.
- Through Natural Step Canada, we purchased 50 licenses for on-line TNS training. Fifty staff members from a variety of departments have completed on-line TNS training as well as in-house facilitation and training sessions.
- Establishing an Intrawest Sustainability Network to provide a forum of exchanging information on sustainability programs with other resorts.
- Setting up more than 45 interpretive sites on the mountains.
- Participants learn about local issues with the Environmental Fund and WB Habitat Improvement Team.
- Bring the Telluride Mountainfilm on Tour to Whistler annually to raise awareness about environmental issues and to showcase the WB Foundation Environmental Fund.
- Attend community open houses and participate in events to showcase sustainability programs including Earth Day, Clean Air Day, Environment Week, the Commuter Challenge and Mountain and Valley Clean up Days.
- Over 400 children attend summer outreach programs annually.
- Over 3000 guests have participated in bear and ecology tours.
