Arthur DeJong

Arthur DeJongArthur DeJong has been with Whistler Blackcomb for more than 25 years. Through various roles including Ski Patrol Manager and Mountain Operations Manager for Blackcomb, Arthur has gained an exceptional familiarity with our mountain terrain and a deep understanding of the workings of the mountain ecosystem.

Arthur pioneered work in the area of environmental planning on Whistler Blackcomb which has led him to his current position of Mountain Planning and Environmental Resource Manager. In this role, Arthur works to marry planning techniques that both improve the guest experience and respect the natural environment.

Arthur has been an active member of the Whistler community for many years and believes that the key to effective planning is openness and community involvement. Arthur is currently active in numerous community social and environmental groups. He also dedicates volunteer time to crisis line counseling and international aid programs.

Allana Hamm

Allana Hamm As Environmental Coordinator, Allana works with staff and community members to increase awareness about sustainability and to plan and implement actions that move us toward our goal of more sustainable mountain operations.

Her first task as Environmental Coordinator nine years ago was to help reduce the amount of garbage we were sending to the landfill. We have reduced our waste costs and volumes by more than 59% since that time.

Allana's role has expanded to include internal and external sustainability training, energy conservation, hazardous materials management, climate change mitigation, and community outreach. Allana is the founder and Chairperson for the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Environmental Fund.

As a certified Level II Natural Step trainer, Allana facilitates the energy, water and transportation planning groups within Whistler Blackcomb. She is also a member of the energy and transportation task forces for the Whistler 2020 municipal sustainability program. Allana holds an Honours Degree in Environment and Resource Studies and Business Administration from the University of Waterloo.

Kathy Jenkins

Kathy JenkinsKathy Jenkins joined the environmental team for the 2005/2006 ski season while Allana was away on maternity leave. Originally hailing from Nova Scotia, she has been working with Whistler/Blackcomb in the retail division since 1996.

Kathy is responsible for staff education and training on how to make our community more sustainable and continues the effort of reducing the mountain operations waste. She also liaises with all the mountain departments to find new ways to conserve energy and lessen out impact on the environment.

Kathy is involved has been involved in both restoration and educational projects with many local community groups. She has attended the University of Victoria since 2001 while working for Whistler Blackcomb, completing a diploma in the Restoration of Natural Systems.

In her time with the Environmental Team, Kathy will focus on continuing to build a strong community of sustainability advocates and work towards The Natural Step goal of Zero Waste at Whistler Blackcomb.
