Orienteering Competition for 2009 World Police and Fire Games
Brandywine Provincial Park

The Orienteering competition of the 2009 World Police and Fire Games will bring to Whistler athletes from around the world.

You can watch the Awards Ceremony at Brandywine parking lot (Event Center) at 1:30pm and experience the thrill of orienteering first hand right after that.

We are glad to offer to the public an opportunity to participate and learn about Orienteering after the main competition.

A call for volunteers: Some keen outdoor lovers with little or no experience are needed to help make the event a great success.

Saint Deep Summer Photo Challenge
Fairmont Chateau Whistler

6 Photographers – 3 Days – 1 Slide Show Event An impressive roster of 6 renowned invited photographers and an illustrious judging panel is the basis for yet another NEW event for '09. Each of the invited professional photographers will team up with athletes of their choice to be unleashed on the Whistler Mountain Bike Park to capture the on mountain action in the prime of summer.

They'll have 3 days to shoot, edit and compile a slide show to impress the judges… and all of us when we gather for the big night finale. The pressure and prestige is on with $6,000 prize money and a huge career boost on the line.

Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival
Blackcomb

Saturday August 15, 12 - 4pm

The only official non-biking event is another gravity fed experience, back for its second year! This UK-style, century old tradition has contestants running and tripping down a mountain chasing an 11-pound cheese wheel to win the cheese (and Whistler season passes).

Come to base 2 of Blackcomb mountain to watch or compete in the hilarious races, sample Canadian cheeses at the farmers' market and chill out as the kids let off some steam with plenty of entertainments. FREE event.

Starting June 20, the Whistler Farmers' Market hits the pedestrian streets of the Upper Village (near The Fairmont Chateau Whistler) every Sunday with artisans, crafts, organic and local produce, jams, honey, baked goods, jewelry and much more. Runs every Sunday 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. until October 11.
