Facilitated by Whistler/Blackcomb – A community based grassroots non-political take action group.
Mission is to protect, restore, enhance fish and wildlife habitat in the community of Whistler. Part of our commitment to building partnerships in action for environmental sustainability. Ask for projects from other community environmental groups like WFSG, AWARE, WhistlerBlackbear working group, Interpretive Forest committee etc. We also accept projects from independent members of the community.
Meet every second Tuesday outside Merlin’s bar at the base of Blackcomb at 5:45 pm and leave at 6 pm to the project site. Volunteers are welcome to meet us later at the project site. Once the project is concluded we go back to Merlin’s for a late happy hour.
Do projects anywhere in the Whistler area. Try to do one project per season in Pemberton.
Bring food, water, and full cover clothing as we work in forests, wetlands, ditches, and creeks. Not glamorous work – Call it an environmental boot camp!
HITs inception was in 1997 and since then 112 projects have been completed. The health of the environment is a core concern of Whistler locals and this venue gives them hands on opportunity for involvement. It also provides a venue for Whistler/Blackcomb to work shoulder to shoulder with the community. On average 15 – 20 participants are involved in each project. We have a number of volunteers that never miss a project however we are very flexible. You are only committed for the evening you attend. Children are welcome however it is advisable to assess the age relative to the physical demand of the project. Projects typically take 3 hrs. as we blow the finish horn at 9 PM.
