The Vancouver Symphony Orchestral Institute

Vancouver Symphony Orchestral Institute
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestral Institute at Whistler is welcoming 90 students from all around the world to Whistler this week for an intensive program of study with Maestro Bramwell Tovey and a faculty of Vancouver Symphony Orchestra musicians. Our students, ages 15-25, are exceptionally talented young musicians. During their time at the VSOIW, they are playing with the Whistler Institute Orchestra and participating in masterclasses, chamber music ensembles, and instrumental coachings with our faculty. The opportunity to learn and make music together while taking in the natural beauty of Whistler, and all Whistler has to offer is incredibly inspiring. In the coming days, they will present a series of chamber music performances around Whistler Village as well as the highly anticipated Whistler Institute Orchestra performance of Mahler’s epic Symphony No. 6 on stage at Whistler Olympic Plaza on July 3 at 2pm. We invite everyone to join us for this free concert, and to visit our website, www.vsoinstitute.ca to learn more about additional performances happening this weekend. This afternoon, you’ll be hearing three of the Institute’s finest chamber ensembles: a string quartet performing the first movement of Benjamin Britten’s String Quartet No. 2; a woodwind quintet performing Carl Nielsen’s Quintet; and a Brass Ensemble performing works by Dukas, Knox, and Grieg.
