Come Practice

The Helly Hansen Beacon Training Park can be found near the top of Emerald Chair, on the right side of upper GS.

The system features a wireless platform, and allows you to test your skills and practice before heading into the backcountry. The training park has eight buried beacons that guests can practice locating using a transceiver and probe. Different beacons, or combinations of beacons, can be activated from the control panel, creating dozens of search scenarios.

If you have any questions, ask a Ski Patroller. This area is free to use.

How Does it Work?

Once you arrive at the Helly Hansen Beacon Training Park, open the box on the signpost, follow the instructions, and start working on your transceiver skills!

  1. Open black box (inside wooden box)
  2. Turn on the main power switch and wait for red lights to turn on
  3. Use switches to select the number of targets
  4. Search with personal transceiver
  5. Probe buried targets. An audible tone will sound at the control box when the target has been successfully probed.
  6. Do not dig up the targets. Leave them for others to use too. The training park is just meant for beacon search practice.
  7. Have fun. Practice often.
