Are you thinking of coming to ski at Whistler, but not sure exactly when to book? Here’s a month-by-month rundown of the ski season at North America’s Best Ski Resort.

NOVEMBER

Whistler Blackcomb often opens by mid-to-late November, and it's still early in season. While not all runs may be open, with snowmaking efforts and good snow conditions at higher elevations such as on Blackcomb Glacier, early-bird skiers and riders can enjoy the slopes, though weather conditions can be unpredictable. The stoke level around town is super high in November with Opening Day penciled into everyone’s calendar.  Prior to opening day, people are getting their gear ready and watching as many ski and snowboard movies as possible. They don’t have to wait long though, opening day is typically in the second or third week in November, and then all bets are off. With fewer guests in town, you can expect smaller lift lines and great deals around town on accommodation and food.

DECEMBER

This is when the ski season really starts to kick off.  Christmas, as you can imagine, is incredibly magical, and also very popular. If you’re planning on coming over the Christmas holidays, we recommend booking well in advance. Don’t forget to <a rel=" target="_blank">book your lessons as well, as many people forget, and it sells out over this timeframe. The beginning of December is also a fantastic time to visit. After being open for a few weeks, the terrain options vastly expand - meaning you can get amazing turns with smaller crowds.

JANUARY

If you love mountain views, January is a prime time to visit with some of the heaviest and most consistent snowfall of the season. The resort typically receives around 2 to 2.5 meters (6.5 to 8 feet) of snowfall in January. Between pow days the skies open up for the most stellar bluebird days. The iconic backdrop of the coastal mountains and the famous Black Tusk are unparalleled in January.  However, Whistler in January is also a very popular time of year, so make sure to plan and book early to avoid disappointment.

FEBRUARY

By February we’re in the heart of the season and it’s prime time for skiing. Whistler typically receives around 2 to 3 meters (6.5 to 10 feet) of snowfall in February, though totals can vary depending on weather patterns. The snow quality is usually excellent, with powder days being common due to colder temperatures and consistent storms. Powderhounds descend on town because the snowpack is deep and the pow days are plentiful.

If you don’t own powder skis, we highly recommend using the My Epic Gear Service to demo a pair. The gear really does make a difference. In addition to My Epic Gear, the rental shops in town have a wide selection of options to suit the conditions. There’s also no more romantic place to spend your Valentine’s Day than on top of a mountain.

MARCH

While other resorts start to ramp down in March, we still have lots of season left and another excellent month for skiing and snowboarding at Whistler, often bringing a mix of heavy snowfall and milder spring-like conditions. Whistler typically receives around 2 meters (6.5 feet) of snowfall in March, which helps maintain solid snow coverage on the mountains. The temperatures start to warm up slightly, especially at lower elevations, so you may experience a mix of powder days and sunny, bluebird conditions.

March is great skiing and riding for its sunny days and surprise powder mornings. Some of the best days on the hill are in March when the snow is deep and the lines are short.

APRIL

If you love sunshine and short lines, April is for you. The skiing and snowboarding in April at Whistler is still very enjoyable, especially for those who appreciate spring skiing. Whistler typically receives around 1 to 1.5 meters (3 to 5 feet) of snowfall in April, particularly at higher elevations, including Blackcomb Mountain and the glaciers. Snow conditions can vary, with fresh snow in the higher alpine areas and softer, slushier conditions at lower elevations due to warmer temperatures.

The patios are buzzing and the groomers carve like butter, perfect for relaxed laps with friends and warm après sessions.

MAY

May is the ultimate dual sport month. The Whistler Mountain Bike Park opens in May, meaning you can get laps with your skis and bike all in one day. With the warmer weather the lakes also start to get very popular, perfect for morning activity and afternoon hangs.
