Ability Level Guide

To ensure the safest and most enjoyable experience while in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, please read the following guidelines carefully.
 

Beginner Rider

BIKE PARK EXPERIENCE
No experience in a DH Mountain bike park.

OTHER CYCLING
Limited mileage on city streets and paved bike paths. Type of bike - road and/or urban bike. Little experience on a Mountain bike on terrain such as dirt roads and man-made gravel bike trails.
 
SKILLS
Average balance and control on a bike and can control the use of hand brakes.
 
BENEFITS OF TAKING A PROGRAM
You will learn basic skills such as braking and cornering that you need to ride your first bike park trails comfortably and confidently. Your guide will choose trails appropriate for your skill, speed, rest points and offer immediate feedback in order to maximize your learning experience.
 
SUGGESTED PROGRAMS:
 

Novice Rider

BIKE PARK EXPERIENCE
Limited experience in DH Mountain bike parks. Able to ride comfortably at slower speeds on green trails similar or the same as Easy Does It. Very limited mileage in Whistler Bike Park.
 
OTHER CYCLING
Has some experience on green technical XC trails ie: easy gradient with roots and/or rocky terrain. Limited mileage on XC Mountain bikes.

SKILLS
Good balance and control on a bike and can control the use of hand brakes.
 
BENEFITS OF TAKING A PROGRAM
You will learn the additional skills you need to ride more difficult trails. Your guide will choose trails appropriate for your skill, speed, rest points and offer immediate feedback in order to maximize your learning experience.

    BIKE PARK EXPERIENCE
    Bike Park experience on green and easy blue trails. 5 – 10 days experience. Looking to learn how to drop and jump safely.
     
    OTHER CYCLING
    Comfortable at slower speeds on technical blue trails with roots and loose rocks and tight single track. More experience on a XC Mountain bike than DH bike.
     
    SKILLS
    No jumping or drop experience. Can ride, balance, change gears and brake without thinking about it.
     
    BENEFITS OF TAKING A PROGRAM
    Benefits of taking a program: You will learn the basics of how to drop and jump, as well improving your overall bike skills. Your guide will choose trails appropriate for your skill, speed, rest points and offer immediate feedback in order to maximize your learning experience.

  • Strong Intermediate Rider

    BIKE PARK EXPERIENCE
    Comfortable on all green and blue technical trails in the Whistler Bike Park. Can comfortably ride the blue wide flowing blue trails with rollers and easy jumps. Working towards improving jump, drop and cornering skills to handle the harder Blue flow trails. Riding mileage on elevated wooden features.

    OTHER CYCLING
    Can ride Blue trails and some Black XC or technical single track. Is able handle small drops, roots, rocks and steeper, descending terrain.
     
    SKILLS
    Limited jumping or drop experience. Can ride, balance, change gears and brake without thinking about it at higher speeds and on steeper terrain.

    BENEFITS OF TAKING A PROGRAM
    Benefits of taking a program: Maximize learning time while learning the skills needed to negotiate larger drops and jumps. Maximize your learning experience by letting your guide make appropriate trail, terrain, speed and rest break decisions.
     
    SUGGESTED PROGRAMS: 

     

    Advanced Rider

    BIKE PARK EXPERIENCE
    Comfortable on all blue technical and flowing trails with jumps and drops. Has mileage on Black technical trails and flow trails with jumps and drops. Working on improving technique on Black jump and drop features.
     
    OTHER CYCLING
    Comfortable on all blue technical and flowing trails with jumps and drops. Has significant mileage on Black technical trails and flow trails with jumps and drops.
     
    SKILLS
    Jumping or drop experience. Able to ride smoothly, retain balance, change gears and brake comfortably at higher speeds and on steeper and rougher terrain.
     
    BENEFITS OF TAKING A PROGRAM
    Develop your skills and experience levels with the added safety of having a guide to coach you on the finesse and timing required at more advanced levels of riding.

     


    Expert Rider

    BIKE PARK EXPERIENCE
    Significant mileage and proficient on all Black technical and flow jump and drop trails. Working on gaining experience on Double black and Pro line trails.

    OTHER CYCLING
    Might not ride XC or Trail at all due to commitment to riding DH/ Bike Park. Mileage and skills will usually be high with all trails being ridden confidently and quickly.
     
    SKILLS
    Regular jumping or drop experience. Can ride smoothly, retain balance, change gears and brake without thinking about it at high speeds on steeper and rougher terrain.

    BENEFITS OF TAKING A PROGRAM
    Benefits of taking a program: Personal coaching on the advanced skills and finesse required to ride at the highest level to maximize the return on your valuable riding time.
